What Is Most Important to Me?

Can you answer the question, "What is important to me?" Do you know why those things are important to you? Answers these questions to help with your job search.

Think about what things in your life are important to you. Your values are the things most important to you.

Here are examples of one person's values. Read how this person can make choices that fit his values:

What is important to me? Why? What should you do?
Time with my family. I want to be with my kids before bed and spend time with them on the weekends. Get a Monday-Friday day-time job.
I want to make more money. I need to pay the bills and take care of my family. Find a job with career advancement opportunities.
I want to stay healthy. I want be able to always provide for my family. Find a job with health benefits.
I want to help the environment. I want my children to live in a clean community. Find a "green job" that helps the environment.

Maybe these things are important to you. Maybe you value other things.

Directions: In the exercise below, put these things in order of what's important to you. If you want, you can print this page so you can write on it. You will write number 1, 2 or 3 in front of the most important things. Things that are less important to you will have higher numbers There are no right or wrong answers. The order you choose will help you set goals.
